Jesslyn Blue clutches the zodiac tightly in her pocket next to her Buddha notebook of poetry and ideas. If growing up by the Jersey Shore taught her anything, it is to enjoy the little things: a sunrise, bonfires, and listening to the ocean waves. Her passion towards language and the arts led her to proudly achieve her B.A. in English from Rutgers University.
She is a multi-talented artist who wears many hats: author, scholar, spoken word poet, curator, freelance editor, workshop facilitator, model, and painter. As the guest Canvas of Resource Facilitator for Evolution Open Mic, she facilitated a live group painting and gave away original sketches as game prizes. She has edited a range of manuscripts from college essays to poetry to memoirs, also receiving clients in promotional modeling for companies such as the Glass of Phoenix and Handsome Cupcakes.
Some of her previously featured performances include Project Venus: An All-Female Music & Poetry Showcase, Chris Rockwell Presents, the 2nd Annual Black Artists Review, Brick City Speaks, the Military Park Reading Series, Nuyorican Poet’s Café, Mixed Pleasures Open Mic & Showcase, Soulsational Festival, and On The Mic.
Her current focus is on publishing a book of poetry to follow the release of her chapbook, C’est La Vie, and producing creative writing workshops and art events bimonthly in Newark, NJ under her brainchild, Open Words, at the Newark LGBTQ Community Center. She loves wine, good jokes, and Spider-man.
